Suicide Attack on Jammu’s Raghunath Temple
While the world’s attention was focused on the crisis in the Mid-East touched off by a wave of suicide bombings, bloody terrorist attacks on Hindus and other civilians escalated during the month in Jammu and Kashmir, building up to another violent summer. On March 30th, a 3-member Pakistani suicide team attacked the famous Raghunath Temple in the heart of Jammu city, killing four civilians and four policemen before the attack ended with two of the terrorists killed, and the other escaped. Dozens were injured in the attack, and blood was splattered on the ground in the temple with the injured wandering around in shock and pain in the aftermath.

Predictably, the Islamic Front claimed credit for the attack. The Islamic Front is one of the groups which has absorbed most of the cadre of the Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, now under the US spotlight. Pakistan is passing off this reorganization of terrorist groups as its action to end terrorism. The 2000 extremists, whose arrest by Pakistan in January, which was made much of by US officials, have already been released. Masood Azhar and Hafiz Mohammed Sayeed, heads of Jaish and Lashkar respectively, have also been released. There are reports that at least 10,000 trained terrorists of groups related to the Al Qaida and Taliban continue to operate in Pakistan. It is clear that Pakistan is getting ready to go back towards peak levels of terrorism export.
